FIGHTING…try to FIGHT not to go to the movies – if you must, rent it!

So don’t get me wrong Channing Tatum – he was the highlight of the movie. And yes (to my disappointment) Terrance Howard was unwatchable. Terrence Howard was trying to portray this tough smart hustler guy who was left behind while his friends all made it pretty big in the hustling game but with a funny accent. Was that just me? His voice – not sure what he was aiming for but it didn’t work well. SOME SPOILERS ---- He discovers Tatum early on in the movie and tells him he can make money fighting… and the rest is history. The only thing that really bothered me with Tatum’s character was the reason for his being in the city alone, no friends, no family. What was the drive behind him? We only literally found this out at the very end but at that point I didn’t even care. There was some small comedic relief through the movie especially in two characters, one of Howard’s errand boys, Ajax, played by Michael Rivera and Tatum’s love interests’ grandma – they made me laugh the most. And lastly, like all other great young films, everybody needs a rival from their past, and for Tatum’s character, this is Evan Hailey played by Brian J. White. You might remember him best from Stomp the Yard and The Family Stone.

Obviously, for those crazy fanatic fans of Channing Tatum, they flocked, I mean, made it to #3 this weekend at the box office – so that is pretty darn good for your first lead role movie. But I’m letting everyone know – if you really want to see it, rent it. This is a stepping stone for Mr. Tatum and it did pretty well, but don’t forget actors have to start from somewhere to get their foot in the door to attempt to get those roles that all actors dream of.

    ~ ~ ~

The Dead Weather was formed in Nashville, TN in 2009. Vocalist Alison Mosshart (of The Kills), guitarist Dean Fertita (of Queens of the Stone Age), bassist Jack Lawrence (of The Raconteurs) and drummer Jack White (of White Stripes & The Raconteurs). The band is due to release their debut album Horehound on June 9, 2009. Their first single is Hang you from the Heavens. Mosshart's voice is perfect for this single - it just works really well and makes the song kick ass. They just played two nights ago at a sold out show at the The Bowery Ballroom in NYC which I’ve only heard/read great things of their performance.

    New Stuff - April/May 09

Fast & Furious.... go watch it!

Go see this movie! It was fun and the cars are definitely cool especially the cars Vin Diesel gets to drive; he drives the bad ass cars and Paul Walker drives more of the normal street cars but with more additions. It was cool to see this movie with the original cast (Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez)! I barely remember the other two sequels that came after the original and before this one - this feels more like the real sequel except. It was definitely more about getting the bad guy's vs the original film, about what's cool now let's get the bad guy but don't forget to look at all the million hot cars. Just talking about me - makes me wanna go see the original (gotta look for it). But watching this brought memories of where i was when the original film, The Fast and the Furious came out.

It's a simple, fun and enjoyable movie. All the scenes with Diesel and Walker are pretty great - they have alot of back and forth chemistry without making it annoying - those two guys make it work so well!! Next time, you go to the movies - go check it out...it was definitely worth it!!

I Love You, Man - Movie Review...wait to rent it!

So I ended up watching this movie after the second option movie (adventureland- which I saw already) was showing really late but we should have waited and gone to see Adventureland...

Ok, it wasn't that bad but it wasn't as funny as I hoped it would be considering Paul Rudd and Jason Segel were co-leading this movie. I'll admit there were scenes that were funny and I did laugh. Jon Favreau was my favorite character I couldn't wait to see him and Jamie Pressly who was playing his wife - they should do a movie based on those two! Oh I almost forgot about the WTF scene with Rudd and Favreau over poker and beer!

I want to go to Adventureland…again! Who’s with me?

I was born in the 80s so I wasn’t lucky enough to experience my teenage years during that time but definitely remember MTV and all the crazy music videos, the clothes, the makeup, the hair and let’s not forget all the colorful accessories! Adventureland made me so nostalgic of the 80s…I left the theatre wanting to go back in time.

The entire cast is funny and the leads Jason Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart just stand out. To be honest, I’m not too familiar with Jason’s previous films, but every time I saw the trailer - he stood out to me, so he was one of the reasons I wanted to see this and of course, Ryan Reynolds has a smaller role in this film but of course – he always stands out to me! I was worried about Kristen’s portrayal because of all the Twilight insanity I didn’t want to see “Bella” being played again. I did worry on the first scene she was in, but the next time she was on screen, she was not “Bella” she was ‘Em’ and she killed it throughout the rest of the film - did an awesome job… she and Jason were great and also when she was with Ryan Reynolds – so much fun! And I have to say Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig made me laugh as well... just have to recognize those two and the rest of the cast were so easy to watch and love and just made me want to reminisce about my funny teenage stories like that.

Gregg Mottola who produced Superbad wrote this story based on his teenage years working at Adventureland. Eisenberg plays James whose summer plans fall through and so to save some money for his first semester at grad school – he gets a job at Adventureland and meets all these people and falls for Em, played by Stewart. Who is also having a rough summer with some personal issues and doesn’t really know exactly what to do with James and I’m assuming has never been treated this way by a guy (sweet). And Hader and Wiig are the managers of James, Em and the rest of the young cast; which I would have loved them as my managers when I was a teenager. It’s a real fun movie and the soundtrack is pretty fun except for one song that after awhile – enough is enough….I felt James’ frustration!

So definitely check it out…It’s a fun movie – either it will make you appreciate your teenager years or wish your teenage years were similar to James or Em. Go… have a good time and reminisce about your 80s experience!

Pink's new video for Please Don't Leave Me

    I have to say....

these two seem like opposites, but they seem really happy. they attended the Country Music Awards last night in Las Vegas and they look so adorable dressed all in white. and here are some pics of Keith Urban and his wife Nicole Kidman....

    Soundtracks you need to have….

I recently heard the full soundtracks for two films that are currently out in theatres, I Love You, Man and Adventureland. Both albums are SO good and just real fun to listen to.

On I Love You, Man, there are 15 songs which has a really cool combined mixture of sounds from artists like Vampire Weekends, Santogold, the Black Keys and then there are some artists that have been around awhile, Beck, Cars and even Dean Martin singing one of his classics Ain’t that a Kick in the Head. Even the stars of the movie, Paul Rudd and Jason Segel have one song together, Limelight.

And now Adventureland is purely 80s! 14 classic 80s songs, some real popular hits and some not so but should have been. Right off the bat, your listening to Lou Reed’s Satellite of Love, and then you move on to David Bowie’s Modern Love, and then to Falco’s Rock Me Amadeus. Some of my favorites are at the very end; Unsatisfied by The Replacements and then Pale Blue Eyes by the Velvet Underground. And of course there are some true 80s classics, Outfield’s Your Love, INXS’s Don’t Change and of course one of the top bands of the 80s, The Cure’s Just like Heaven.
