The All-American Rejects - Kids In the Street.... Album Review

I don’t normally write a full blown review of albums… only have done it for a few. I usually just post the album on my ‘playing on my iPod list’ (on the side of the blog) and list a few sounds that really stand out. But this album, Kids In the Street is by far the best album of 2012 so far!! I have had the album playing in my car since Tuesday night and I just really, really love it. I’m loving it more and more as the days go on. It’s funny, Wednesday, I would have told you my favorite song was ‘Fast and Slow’, Thursday I would have said ‘Kids in the Street’, ‘Affection’ or ‘Walk Over Me’. Today is ‘Out the Door’. I even had to bring it in with me to work… the 30 minute drive to and from work just isn’t enough!
Looks like I will be playing out this album and promote the crap out of it!

Anyway – I’m going to break down for you:
Someday’s Gone and Beekeeper’s Daughter – first videos and singles. Great songs – love it! Beekeeper’s Daughter was just really different sounding from what I thought I should hear from these guys, but I’m glad they surprised me! Sounds real good.
Fast & Slow – just a super fun song… with the windows down and it was a real nice touch adding Audra Mae on there (she is signed with OneSideDummy Records). She gives a real nice kick to this song.
Heartbeat Slowing Down – the words and Tyler’s voice really got me on this song. ‘All we had written well, its been erased’; ‘tell me how am I supposed to breathe, losing you is choking me’.
Walk Over Me – the whole song is just fun.
Out The Door - love the chorus on this song.. when Tyler Ritter sings ‘I walk out the door’ – just really like that part.
Kids in the Street – really loved the words on this song. Made me kinda sad (depending on the mood) but definitely puts me back to when I was a teenager with the music blasting, hair in my face and loving every minute, every second of my life at that moment. ‘used to laugh, used to cry’; ‘a glory night is a story saved’
Bleed Into Your Mind – love the sound and feel of this song. ‘I need you one last time’
Gonzo – Another good song. Love how during the chorus and right at the end it gives such an impact of get the hell up and enjoy life. ‘we bought the ticket so we’ll take the ride’
    Affection – ‘I need affection’. Who doesn’t?
I For You – a very rocknroll song to end with the last words, ‘somebody like me… I’d die for you.’ END.

I bought the deluxe version so I got a few extra songs – demo versions except for ‘drown next to me’.
Tyler Ritter’s voice sounds so great on this album and I've really enjoyed seeing where this band is at. Been a fan from the beginning but this album has to be my favorite! A nice real mixture of vulnerability, honesty and fun. Sounds so cool and yet sophisticated, which I love.
They are on tour, but unfortunately, I cannot make the dates or locations they are playing… I’m hoping they put out some more dates. Would really LOVE to see them play this album live! Just feels like it would be a real fun night!

I will post audio to some of the songs when I get a chance for those who need more convincing! Now… for those who don't need any more convincing & haven’t bought the album yet… GO NOW!

Cults - You Know What I Mean official video

I know last year, I kept tweeting about their songs, 'Go Outside' and 'Abducted' - which I love.  But this latest video/song is just really cool.  Love their song... sounds very old school.

    Walk the Moon 'Anna Sun'...

On the next great sunny day, I dare you to play this song loud and windows down!   Such a fun, fun song!!

Feist - The bad in each other...official video

Really love this song and who can ignore Feist's voice really?  No one.   This video though, something about it... makes me feel sad but at the very end possibly hopeful.  What do you think?

Florence + The Machine - Never Let Me Go official video

This is one of my favorite songs off the latest album, Ceremonials.  This video is very dark, eerie, but the matches the song real well.

    Santigold, disparate youth music video...

Santigold definitely grabbed my attention a few years back after I heard the great, ‘L.E.S. Artists’, ‘Shove It’ and ‘Lights Out’. Really like her sounds, can definitely tell she has been influenced by different genres of music; 80s music, old school hip hop, new wave, etc. really cool when someone can come up with their own sound!
Three songs have been released off her upcoming new album (smartly titled), Master of My Make-Believe. So far this song/video is my favorite from what I’ve heard… but I do always change favorites depending on mood and life I guess.
If you get a chance, please check out these other songs as well, ‘Big Mouth’ and ‘Go’ ft. Karen O from Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The album will be released sometime on April.

Snow White and the Huntsman - Official Trailer #2 (2012) [HD]

The teaser looked awesome but this full trailer is amazing... I'm really excited to see this on a big screen.  Just hope it doesn't disappoint!  How amazing does Charlize Theron look in this... wow.  Great cast, Theron, Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Ian McShane, Eddie Izzard and so on and so on.

Another song by Steve Aoki, "Heartbreaker"

Such a catchy song... listen to the song and let me know if you start singing the chorus randomly.  I must admit, I found myself singing along and I had to share.

Life Happens --- Official Movie Trailer

Liking the cast on this one... Krysten Ritter is always funny in every film I've seen her in and she actually co-wrote this so it should be entertaining.  Well, I hope anyway.   Kate Bosworth, Geoff Stults, Jason Biggs, Rachel Bilson and Kristen Johnston star in this film.  What do you think?

Dark Shadows - Official Trailer 2012 [HD] Johnny Depp Movie

This looks pretty funny.. and I have to admit besides the awesome cast Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Grace Moretz, Helena Bonham Carter, Jonny Lee Miller and Eva Green.  This is a film by the weirdly but super talented Tim Burton.  Are you in?

    HBO's Hemingway & Gellhorn

Here is a little teaser of an original film from HBO which should be airing in May.  Nicole Kidman and Clive Owen star as Gellhorn and Hemingway; telling a love story, their love story.

Birdy - Skinny Love music video

Heard this song last night for the first time and I had to share it.  The song, her voice just really different and amazing!   Hope you enjoy it...  lyrics are below.

Birdy - Skinny Love from Johi on Vimeo.

Come on skinny love just last the year
Pour a little salt we were never here
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer

I tell my love to wreck it all
Cut out all the ropes and let me fall
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Right in the moment this order's tall
    [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/b/birdy/skinny_love.html ]
I told you to be patient
I told you to be fine
I told you to be balanced
I told you to be kind
In the morning I'll be with you
But it will be a different "kind"
I'll be holding all the tickets
And you'll be owning all the fines

Come on skinny love what happened here
Suckle on the hope in lite brassiere
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Sullen load is full; so slow on the split

I told you to be patient
I told you to be fine
I told you to be balanced
I told you to be kind
Now all your love is wasted?
Then who the hell was I?
Now I'm breaking at the britches
And at the end of all your lines

    Who will love you?
    Who will fight?
    Who will fall far behind?

Just a fun song... 'don't be afraid to dance people... don't be afraid to take a chance'

    Taylor Kitsch....GQ interview....

Tim Riggins has arrived... if you don't know who Riggins is than 'your without' - you have missed one of the best character from one of the finest television show ever! Taylor Kitsch played Tim Riggins on the wonderful show, Friday Night Lights (the entire cast was phenomenal)!

Kitsch has two major films coming out, Disney's John Carter and Battleship (Peter Berg, FNL)...

GQs interview (link below) shows that he is a cool small town but big dreams guy and I hope everyone sees these films and he makes it to pick what 'passion' roles he would like to play. I'm actually excited about the film that comes after these huge budget films, an Oliver Stone film co-starring John Travolta and Benicio del Toro, Savages.

Wow... thinking tearjerker for this film!  Check out this trailer for Now Is Good starring Dakota Fanning and Jeremy Irvine.

Jack White-'love interruption' performance on snl

Had heard this song before... Thought it was good, but really enjoyed his performance on last nights SNL.

    Michael Fassbender - GQ's 2011 Breakout Star

After watching 2011's Jane Eyre - Michael Fassbender is on my watch list for a GREAT actor.  Really enjoyed him in X-Men: First Class but after watching Jane Eyre, I was hooked.  Really enjoyed his performance - real class act.  Can't wait to watch the independent films, Shame and A Dangerous Method and the film, Haywire.   He will also be in this year's Ridley Scott's Prometheus.   I was doing my normal research on him and stumbled on GQ's breakout star of 2011... so decided to share the video and recommend that everyone keep an eye out on this actor.

We Are Augustines - "Chapel Song" performance on David Letterman 2/24/12

So I've been following this band, We Are Augustines since I heard them over the summer (posted their music video back in August 2011)... this song 'Chapel Song' was on my list of best music/songs and videos for 2011. They made their late night network debut on David Letterman and they did an awesome job... please check them out! LOVE this song.. so fun!

    Avril Lavigne - Goodbye

Avril Lavigne decided to do one last video before officially wrapping up from this album, Goodbye Lullaby. I really like this video and seeing her in this - real different. She is a super talented and it's pretty refreshing that she seems to be the same person after all this time, obviously, she has grown up and her music reflects her changing and remember she is only in her late 20s. Give her a lot of credit... let me know what you think.

All American Rejects - 'Beekeeper's Daughter' music video...

I really like this band, I think All American Rejects bring a real cool quality of fun in their music - you can totally tell they really do enjoy it!  Their upcoming album (Kids in the Street) is going to be released later on this month (March 26) and I'm really excited to see what this album has.   In this first single, I can hear a growth but yet still them.   What do you think?  How great is this band?

    Neighborhood Watch -- Teaser Trailer

A little teaser of a movie with the smart funny Ben Stiller, the cool funny Vince Vaughn, the silly funny Jonah Hill and multi-funny newbie (for some) Richard Ayoade.  The teaser looks fun but can't wait to see the full trailer just to get a better sense - with all that talent, will it work?  I hope so!

    Liam Hemsworth - Details Magazine

Liam Hemsworth is another young actor that is on my to watch list... yes, he is the younger brother of Thor, well, Chris Hemsworth.   I rather enjoyed him in The Last Song with Greg Kinnear.  I really enjoyed this interview - definitely a glimpse of his personality.  Check out the interview and the slideshow - and of course, I've posted a few photos.

Jennifer Lawrence -- Cover of Glamour Magazine

Jennifer Lawrence on the cover of Glamour Magazine (I wonder what she is promoting - LOL). Something about this actress - she has a distinctive face and its still fresh and will be interesting to see who she becomes or what the media makes her become. A young leading lady definitely on my watch list.  Anyone excited about The Hunger Games?
